T’was the night before Hope, when all through the land,

All the creatures were stirring, iPhones in hand.

Wishes and dreams were hung on the fireplace with care,

Believing that St. Heart would soon be there.

The old folks were nestled all snug in their roles,

While visions of equality danced in their souls.

Michelle in her robe, and I in my PJs,

Had another stay-at-home day-laze.

When out in the room there arose such a clatter,

Zoey sprang from the table to see what’s the matter.

Away to the window she flew like a flash,

Tore open the drapes with her terrible-tail-sash.

The moon highlights the fresh winter snow

From the Pacific Northwest light to the Doug firs below.

When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,

But inspiration and motivation that was totally clear.

Vaccines being rolled out were there for the taking,

Equal opportunities are now in the making.

Environmental and climate, innovation so lively and smart,

I knew in a moment it must be St. Heart.

More agile than Russell Wilson, the solutions they came,

St. Heart whistled, and shouted, and called them by name:

“Now, Desire! Now Wishes and Dreams,

On, Yearning, Craving and Hankering.

Welcome Optimism and Promise, we will never crack!

Anticipation, Aspiration and Expectations – Welcome Back!

You are what keeps us going, what can we say,

Climb big mountains and run marathons, all in a day,

Let’s get together! And right away! We’re all-in today!”

Reds and Blues, Blacks, Browns and Whites working together,

Something big going on here – we say never-say-never!

We’re all here to thrive, and our task it is clear,

Income equality we will grow, the seeds we now sow.

We’ve got the right motives and plans, we stand together as one,

The holdouts and naysayers will also come!

As racists and polluters bob-and-weave before the new ideas fly,

They will meet with obstacles, high to the sky,

To the depths of despair, those evil-doers will meet their doom,

And then, in a twinkling, I heard in the room…

The prancing and pawing of each little packet.

As I drew on the whiteboard, and was turning around,

Just then St. Heart come down with a bound.

He was dressed in firewalls with bespoke cyber-solutions,

And his clothes were tarnished with detected-intrusions.

Democratic elections he had saved with his hack-proof-sack,

And he looked like a sage just opening his pack.

His eyes — how they twinkled! His secure-core so merry!

Even under his mask, his demeanor was so uncommonly cheery!

His opinion of all living things was so deep and strong,

And if held any grudges, they weren’t for very long.

Visions of unity he held tight in his teeth,

And the goodness it encircled his head like a wreath.

He had an idealistic face but a business-driven belly,

That shook when he negotiated, like a bowlful of jelly.

He was tough but fair, a right jolly old gent,

And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself.

A request for peace and harmony; then a twist of his head,

Soon revealed to the family we had nothing to dread.

Like dreamers do, he spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,

Filled us with imagination; then turned with a jerk,

And laying his mask aside of his nose,

With a wink and a wave, up the table he rose.

Sprang to his autonomous flying sleigh, and gave a whistle,

We were again filled with Hope like a bird to a thistle.

And I heard him exclaim, so we all could hear;

“Merry Christmas to all, and to all a Good-Year,

If 2020 was a brawl, let 2021 be filled with much Greater Cheer!
